QR code A/B test

A QR code A/B test sends the scans of one code to two, three or four different pages, in the proportions you choose, and counts each variant’s scans. With Krealo QR (Pro plan) you compare two versions of an offer or a page without reprinting: the code stays the same.

Who it’s for

  • A shop torn between two offers on the same poster.
  • A restaurant comparing its online menu with a PDF.
  • An agency testing two landing pages for a campaign.
  • An organizer comparing two sign-up forms.

How it works

  1. Open the link’s page, “A/B test” section, then “Add a variant”: the first one takes the current destination.
  2. Enter 2 to 4 destinations and a whole-number weight from 1 to 100 for each. The percentage share shows under each variant.
  3. Save the test. The following scans are split.
  4. Compare the scans per variant on the link’s page, and the real results (sign-ups, sales) in your analytics tool.

How scans are split

On every scan, the server draws a random number and picks a variant by weight: A at 70 and B at 30 give about 70% and 30% of scans over a large number. Weights are whole numbers from 1 to 100.

Measuring the real result

Krealo QR counts scans, not sales. To know which variant converts, add a different parameter to each variant’s address (for example ?utm_content=a and ?utm_content=b) and read the outcome in Google Analytics or your measurement tool.

Honest limits

  • The draw happens on every scan, not per person: the same person scanning twice can see two variants.
  • Krealo QR does not show a statistical-significance calculation. A few dozen scans prove nothing: wait for enough volume before concluding.
  • Country and device rules run before the test: a visitor covered by a rule does not take part in it.
  • The test only applies to links that point to a web address.

Frequently asked questions

How many variants can I test?

From 2 to 4 destinations per code, each with a whole-number weight from 1 to 100.

How do I know which variant wins?

The link’s page shows each variant’s scan count, but not conversions. To compare sign-ups or sales, tell the addresses apart with a parameter (utm_content) and read the result in your analytics tool.

Does a visitor always see the same variant?

No. The choice is random on every scan. Someone scanning twice can land on two variants.

Do I have to reprint the code to change the test?

No. The test is set on the short link: you can change destinations, weights or stop the test without touching the printed code.

What if a country rule also matches?

The rule goes first. The A/B test only applies to visitors no rule caught.
