QR code with an expiry date
A QR code with an expiry date stops leading to its destination after a date or a number of scans that you set. With Krealo QR (Pro plan) you choose the date and time, a scan limit, or both, and a replacement page. Without one, the visitor sees a clear “Link expired” page in the service’s style.
Who it’s for
- A shop whose promotion or coupon ends on a precise date.
- An organizer who wants a registration code to stop working after the event.
- A recruiter whose job posting has a deadline.
- Anyone sharing a document for a limited time.
How it works
- Open the link’s page, “Protection and rules” section, then “Expiry”.
- Pick a date and time, a maximum number of scans, or both.
- Optional: set a destination after expiry, such as an “offer ended” page.
- Save. The printed code does not change.
Two ways to expire
By date: the code stops working at the minute you choose. By scan count: it stops when the limit is reached (from 1 up to a billion). If you set both, whichever threshold is reached first closes the code. The check runs on every scan: if you push the date or the limit back, the code works again as soon as you save.
What the visitor sees after expiry
With a replacement destination, they are redirected there: an “offer ended” page, your next promotion, your home page. Without one, they see a clear “Link expired” page. A printed code therefore never becomes a silent dead end.
The email notice
For a date expiry, Krealo QR emails your account address about 3 days ahead, once per date. If you change the date, the notice is re-armed. There is no notice for a scan limit.
Honest limits
- The scan counter updates every 10 minutes: with a limit, a few extra scans can slip through in that window. For a single-use ticket that must be exact to the scan, this is not the tool.
- A scan is one opening of the link, not one person: the same person scanning twice counts twice. Preview bots are not counted.
- Expiry deletes nothing: the link and its statistics stay in your account.
Availability
This feature is part of the Pro plan, US$5.99 per month or US$39.99 per year, plus taxes. The 7-day Pro trial needs no credit card and is available once per account.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when a QR code expires?
If you set a replacement destination, the visitor is redirected there. Otherwise they see a “Link expired” page. Either way, the printed code does not change.
Can I extend an expired QR code?
Yes. Push the date back or raise the scan limit on the link’s page: the code works again as soon as you save, with no reprint.
Can I combine a date and a scan count?
Yes. The code stops as soon as either threshold is reached.
Will I be warned before it expires?
For a date expiry, an email goes to your account address about 3 days before, once per date. There is none for a scan limit.
Is the scan limit exact?
Almost: the count is consolidated every 10 minutes, so a few scans can go past the limit before it stops. It suits a limited offer, not a single-use ticket.
